Wisdom teeth
Wisdom teeth that have come in fully can often be removed in our office. Wisdom teeth that are impacted (stuck under the gum or bone) are sometimes best handled by an oral surgeon. Dr. Tamkeen will review your X-rays and tell you which applies to you, and help with a referral if needed.
Healing after an extraction
For the first day, bite on gauze as directed, rest, and avoid spitting, drinking through a straw and smoking, all of which can dislodge the clot. Stick to soft foods for a few days and keep the area clean with gentle salt-water rinses after the first 24 hours. Call us if pain gets worse after the third day, which can be a sign of dry socket.
Replacing the tooth
Leaving a gap can let neighboring teeth shift and change your bite. Options include a dental implant, a bridge or a partial denture. If you're considering an implant, it's worth discussing before the extraction, since timing can matter.
Insurance and cost
We accept most PPO dental plans, including Delta Dental, Cigna, Aetna, MetLife, United Concordia and Guardian. Our team verifies your benefits before treatment and gives you a written estimate, so you know your share before we start. Financing is available for larger treatment plans.
